Let’s party like it’s 1898!

The first ferry boat docked at the Ferry Building on July 13, 1898, and it has remained an iconic landmark and the gateway to San Francisco ever since. In addition to the stunning Beaux-Arts architecture and incredible history, the Ferry Building Marketplace has emerged today as a culinary powerhouse, showcasing the best local purveyors of food, drink and other wares.

The Ferry Building is a significant cultural icon and historical landmark, welcoming thousands of visitors daily. We celebrate this 125th anniversary with a community day, free and open to the public.

The festivities include marketplace merchant specials, a free birthday ice cream sundae at Humphry Slocombe (while supplies last), a birthday happy hour at Fort Point, limited-edition swag giveaways, and a takeaway paint by number kit designed by SF Etsy.

Join SF Heritage, our non-profit event partner, and share a Ferry Building memory to be included in a time capsule. Wear your 'ferry finest' attire and snap a picture with performers at the clocktower photo op.

Grab a Clocktower Crawl Card at Bay Crossings and stamp at participating shops to be entered in a weekly prize drawing through August 17th.

Getting Here

The Ferry Building Marketplace is located along the Embarcadero at the foot of Market Street. It is the center of a transit hub that connects all of San Francisco’s neighborhoods and the surrounding bay communities. The marketplace is accessible by MUNI, BART and Ferry Boat. The historic trolley cars (Line F Market) stop directly in front of the Ferry Building.

SF Bay Ferry rides are free for riders 17 and under all day!
