The Commercial Break Marketplace is a new community activation series designed to bring renewed energy and connection to Commercial Street, one of San Francisco Chinatown’s historic corridors. By transforming the block into a pedestrian-only public space, the Marketplace offers a welcoming environment featuring pop-up vendors, community seating, and cultural programming.
Location: Commercial Street, between Kearny and Montgomery Streets.

The Free Canvas Painting Class at Commercial Break Marketplace is BACK! Alongside the Family Photo Day and the San Francisco Public Library Bookmobile, they are bringing back this fan-favorite activity — no experience needed, all materials provided, and you’ll be guided step by step to create your own painting.
As Mother’s Day approaches, we would like to take this opportunity to invite a professional photographer to Commercial Street to offer free family portrait sessions for the community. There will be 2 photography teams, 2 themed backdrops, and a free digital photo booth — all to help you capture a moment that actually lasts.
Bring your friends, explore the market, and enjoy a creative day in Chinatown!
This initiative is a collaborative effort led by the Community Youth Center of San Francisco (CYC) in partnership with the San Francisco Office of Economic and Workforce Development (OEWD) and Self-Help for the Elderly. The project aims to activate public space, enhance neighborhood safety through increased foot traffic, and foster community-centered experiences in Chinatown.
