Details

Bassist Kurt Ribak spent his childhood singing with San Francisco Boys Chorus when other boys were in the Boy Scouts or shooting pool. To this day he is an atrocious pool player. Eventually he realized there was a musical world in addition to Mahler, Puccini and Wagner. He began playing electric bass, studying at Berklee College of Music (where he graduated summa cum laude) and then taught himself upright bass. The Kurt Ribak Trio has released three CDs of Kurt's own compositions and has headlined at jazz clubs including both Oakland and San Francisco Yoshi's.

Kurt formed his own group as a way to get his music performed more often. He describes what the group is trying to achieve as "Charles Mingus meets The Meters. They jam at Duke Ellington's house, and Thelonious Monk and Cachao sit in."

Kurt's fourth CD, "I Got One More!" was released in 2015.
