About San Francisco Women Artists

A presence in the San Francisco arts community for over a century, the continuing mission of San Francisco Women Artists (SFWA) is to support, empower, and expand representation of women in the arts and to encourage a diversity of aspiring artists at all stages of their careers.

About the Artists

Today we feature SFWA member and award-winning artist, Marie Massey. Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Marie has been painting professionally since 2000 and teaching the “Painting in Layers” method to adults working in oil and acrylic since 2012. Her artwork has been juried into many national and prestigious shows across the U.S., at which she has won numerous awards for her oil paintings.

Rene Rodriguez is a Mexican-American artist based in San Francisco. Originally from Dallas, Texas, her interest in the arts began at a young age. She attended Booker T. Washington High School of the Visual and Performing Arts. Her work received an honorable mention in the Congressional Art Competition and was displayed in the U.S. Capitol. Rene received a scholarship to attend the San Francisco Art Institute (BFA 1992) where she studied life drawing, painting, and filmmaking and worked as co-director of the Diego Rivera Gallery. Currently she is a member of the San Francisco Women Artists Gallery and serves on their Board.

This event is free and open to the public; no RSVP required.

Event Lab is produced by the Downtown SF Partnership with support by the San Francisco Women Artists.
