Details
Featuring works by the inaugural cohort of SHACK15 Artist Fellows.
The exhibition features work spanning painting, sculpture, textile weaving, installation, and performance-driven practices. Across generations and mediums, their works engage memory, kinship, land, and identity with both tenderness and formal rigor. The Fellows draw from deeply personal and collective histories: ancestral building traditions, the Great Migration, erotic economies of care, gang ephemera and queer survival, and decades of Bay Area queer visual culture. Together, the exhibition reflects a cross-section of Bay Area practices that are intellectually ambitious, materially inventive, and rooted in lived experience.
The seven recipients of the 2025 SHACK15 Art Prize: Abel Rodriguez, Brontez Purnell, Em Kettner, Joanna Keane Lopez, Terri Friedman, Adrian Burrell, and Keith Boadwee. The opening reception is an opportunity to experience the exhibition, meet the artists, hear from the curators and connect with fellow members of the art and cultural community.
