Details

Celebrate the launch of Shelley Blanton-Stroud's new historical novel, An Unlikely Prospect: A World War II Novel, at Book Passage. Blanton-Stroud will be joined in conversation with Laura Wenus for a timely discussion on journalism, civic myth-making, and the 1945 San Francisco Peace Riots that are at the heart of the book.

Set in post-WWII San Francisco, the novel follows a young female newspaper publisher who investigates the darker truths behind the city's VJ Day celebrations. Her quest for the truth pits her against formidable adversaries, including her controlling father-in-law and authorities desperate to bury the scandal. Based on little-known historical events, the novel follows Sandy’s fight to find her voice in the male-dominated world of 1945 journalism.

This event is free with open seating. A Q&A and book signing will follow the presentation.
