Details
Join KALW for an evening of short cinema by Palestinian filmmakers.
Explore the August edition of Solidarity Cinema, a new monthly film series at KALW Public Media. Tickets are available on a sliding scale of $5–$25 (NOTAFLOF), with proceeds benefiting bay2gaza mutual aid, which collects funds for Palestinian families surviving the genocide in Gaza and KALW Public Media.
Solidarity Cinema is a community-run archive of more than 9,000 films documenting solidarity, struggle, and social movements around the world. By providing free access to radical cinema and supporting grassroots screenings, the project helps organizers, educators, and communities use film as a tool for learning, collective action, and social change.
Films on view this month:
- A Boy, A Wall, and A Donkey (Dir. Hany Abu-Assad) Three young boys want to make a film in a village without cameras.
- Cyber Palestine (Dir. Elia Suleiman) A parable about a modern-day Mary and Joseph, two Palestinian returnees living in Gaza, and their tribulations with the Israeli occupation.
- I Signed the Petition (Dir. Mahdi Fleifel) A conversation between two friends about the effectiveness and implications of publicly supporting the cultural boycott of Israel.
- Mnemosyne (Dir. Inas Halabi) A project considering the construction of memory and oral history through a family’s (re)telling of the story of a scar on the forehead of the filmmaker’s grandfather.
- Nation Estate (Dir. Larissa Sansour) A sci-fi film exploring a dystopian world where one colossal high-rise houses the entire Palestinian population.
Solidarity Cinema happens the final Friday of every month at 8:00 pm.
