Details
Join Gallery Wendi Norris to celebrate the opening of The Long Middle, the sixth solo exhibition by multidisciplinary artist Ranu Mukherjee.
Drawing its title from theorist Lauren Berlant’s "the long middle of change," the exhibition explores our current era of paradigmatic shift. Mukherjee elegantly weaves together the autobiographical and the ecological, linking the personal transformations of mid-life and motherhood with global themes of climate crisis and species loss.
About the Work
Mukherjee’s latest body of work challenges human-centric ideas of intelligence and survival. Utilizing her signature "architectural screens"—layers of pigment, ink, and crystalina on cotton jamdani and silk sari—she creates a sense of visual dissonance that mirrors the tension of lived experience. From the symbiotic relationship of botanical "healers" to the unexpected gentleness of former wrestlers in choreographed duets, Mukherjee’s paintings propose a shared vocabulary of recovery and resilience.
