Details

Explore the vibrant and revolutionary queer history of San Francisco’s Tenderloin and Polk Street neighborhoods with local resident and expert, Professor Shawn Sprockett.

This tour, aptly named “Valley of the Queens,” offers a deep dive into the emergence of LGBTQIA+ icons and movements that shaped the area from the 1960s to the 1990s. The walk highlights landmark events such as the Compton’s Cafeteria Riot—a moment of trans resistance that predates the Stonewall Riots—and the site of San Francisco’s first Pride parade.
