Wayfare Tavern, the flagship restaurant of Chef Tyler Florence, is a timeless San Francisco institution serving authentic American fare inspired by the turn of the 20th century. For 15 years, the menu has been anchored by celebrated classics—including the Famous Wayfare Tavern Fried Chicken, Seasonal Deviled Eggs, and Burrata Whipped Potatoes—alongside a rotating selection of seasonal dishes. The experience is complemented by a robust beverage program featuring an extensive California-centric wine list and a dedication to classic cocktail traditions.
In the spring of 2025, the restaurant transitioned from its original Sacramento Street home to a new, expanded location at 201 Pine Street. This move allowed for an enhanced bar program, larger private dining areas, and a state-of-the-art kitchen designed to serve the downtown community with a broader range of elevated offerings.
Designed by Jon De la Cruz, the reimagined space pays homage to the original tavern’s nostalgia while infusing it with a fresh, dynamic energy. The interior features elegant black, green, and white marble floors paired with white oak paneling and tufted red leather and velvet booths, evoking the charm of the early 1900s. Striking details, such as a gold leaf mural by DeGournay and grand 21-light chandeliers, nod to the California Gold Rush and the sophisticated atmosphere of turn-of-the-century European cafés.
