About the Work

Many Faces, One Winter brings figures to life across the Ferry Building, each arriving from a winter elsewhere. One face emerges, then another, and another. Five entities rise through its clock tower, moving like the breeze off the Bay and leaving the façade a little warmer than they found it.

Every face holds a distinct relationship to the season: warmth, silence, energy, beauty, stillness. Together, they form a composite winter, stitched from the identities of many realms. The work treats the season not as a place but as a feeling, revealing the invisible thread that connects them all.

On one of the city's most familiar landmarks, the piece transforms public architecture into a shared threshold, where San Francisco encounters winters it has never known, yet recognizes something familiar in each. Through their distinct expressions, the five faces evoke a shared sense of joy, wonder, and connection.
