THEATER ON! THURSDAYS
For Black History Month, Downtown SF is celebrating the work of Bay Area native, Ryan Coogler. You may not recognize the name, but you definitely know two films he co-wrote and directed. Black Panther (2018) and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022) earned a combined box office total of more than 2 BILLION DOLLARS. That’s $2,000,000,000+. Black Panther is the highest-grossing film of all time by an African American director.
Coogler made his feature-length film debut in 2013 with Fruitvale Station, which won the Grand Jury Prize and the Audience Award for U.S. Dramatic Film at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. And it won Best First Film at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival. He has been nominated for two Academy Awards, a Golden Globe Award, and a Grammy Award, and has won four NAACP Image Awards and four Black Reel Awards.
We are thrilled to introduce our Theater On! Landing at Leidesdorff program with presentations of Black Panther on Thursday, February 8, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever on Thursday, February 15.
Shows will start around 6:00 pm, as soon as it is dark.
Please note: Landing at Leidesdorff is an outdoor location. A reservation does not guarantee a seat. It is first come, first served. We will have complimentary popcorn (while supplies last), raft seating, lawn chairs, and cafe tables. From 5:30-7:30 PM, Sunset Roasters will be on Leidesdorff Street and giving away FREE hot chocolate and hot coffee to movie guests! Courtesy of the Downtown SF Partnership.
In the event of rain, the Black Panther film screening will be rescheduled for Thursday, February 15, and the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever screening will move to Thursday, February 22. Check our website and social channels for rain cancellation announcements on Thursday morning.
