San Francisco's true summer has officially arrived! While the rest of the country cools down, September and October bring sunny skies and warm weather to Downtown SF. 1. Waterfront Walkabout

🗓️ September 17, 5–8 PM
📍 Ferry Building Plaza to Exploratorium

Stroll the bayside trail for a free monthly art walk along the Embarcadero. Start at the Ferry Building for live music, fresh oysters, and drink specials, then explore four monumental public art installations featuring DJ sets, outdoor paint & sips, storytelling, and free portraits.

2. Oktoberfest on Front Street

🗓️ September 18, 2–10 PM
📍 Front Street

San Francisco's biggest Bavarian block party returns to downtown! Dust off your lederhosen and head to Front Street for authentic polka and yodeling by Ladyhosen, high-energy party hits from Pop Rocks, traditional beer hall games, and cold brews on tap.

3. Free Shakespeare in the Park | "Antony and Cleopatra"

🗓️ September 19–20 & 26–27, 2–3:30 PM
📍 Sue Bierman Park

San Francisco Shakespeare Festival presents its 44th annual free park production just steps from Embarcadero Plaza. Bring a blanket to Sue Bierman Park and enjoy a live outdoor performance of Shakespeare's classic tale of political ambition and tragic passion.

4. Sundown Cinema | "School of Rock"

📍 Ferry Building Back Plaza

Sundown Cinema returns to the Ferry Building back plaza for an outdoor screening of "School of Rock." Grab food and drinks from Ferry Building vendors, bring your own lawn seating and warm layers, and enjoy movie night with iconic bay views.

5. The Ferry Building and Embarcadero

No summer day in SF is complete without a stroll along the Embarcadero. Start at the historic Ferry Building and pop inside the bustling Marketplace for artisan eats, grab fresh seasonal produce at the weekly farmers market, and enjoy lunch with sweeping Bay Bridge views. 6. Mechanics Monument Plaza

Tucked right in the heart of downtown, Mechanics Monument Plaza is one of the city's best open-air spots to pause and catch some afternoon sun. Anchored by the 1901 Mechanics Monument sculpture, this plaza creates the perfect place to relax and enjoy the warm sun. 7. Transamerica Pyramid Redwood Park

Nestled in the shadow of the iconic Transamerica Pyramid, this Redwood Park offers a serene half-acre escape. Home to a dense grove of 50 towering coastal redwoods, this urban oasis bridges natural beauty and architectural vision which creates the perfect sanctuary to pause and walk among giants this season. 

8. Jackson Square

With its historic brick architecture and tree-lined streets, Jackson Square seamlessly blends classic San Francisco charm with modern day elegance. Today, the neighborhood thrives with high-end design and acclaimed fine dining. Stroll the historic blocks, explore boutique storefronts, and grab a French pastry at Maison Nico. 

9. Downtown Gateway 

Say cheese! Located at the end of the California Cable Car line, Downtown Gateway is your front door to the city. Stop by to capture an iconic San Francisco photo and soak up the vibrant atmosphere.

Tucked behind towering skyscrapers and unassuming entrances lie San Francisco’s Privately Owned Public Open Spaces (POPOS), urban sanctuaries designed for the public to enjoy.
