Front Street Entertainment Zone
Front Street (between California and Sacramento Streets), home to iconic downtown bars such as Harrington's Bar and Grill, Schroeder's, and Royal Exchange, is now California's first "Entertainment Zone!" This allows brick-and-mortar establishments to sell alcoholic beverages for outdoor consumption on the street during special events and programs. State Senator Scott Weiner authored Senate Bill 76 in 2023 to enable San Francisco to establish the State’s first Entertainment Zone. This legislation was signed by Governor Gavin Newsom.
DSFP advocated successfully for Front Street to be the first in support of downtown’s economic recovery and serve as a model for future Entertainment Zones. Mayor London Breed introduced legislation for Front Street, which was approved by the San Francisco Board of Supervisors during the summer of 2024.
DSFP is acting as the project lead with support from the San Francisco Mayor's Office of Economic & Workforce Development, BOMA San Francisco, and BXP.
DSFP also announced its partnership with Gensler, a global architecture and urban design firm to develop a brand for Front Street and a site plan for physical streetscape improvements to enhance future entertainment and programs.
The first event of the Entertainment Zone will be Oktoberfest on Front, on Friday, September 20th, 2024. DSFP is actively fundraising for monthly block parties and streetscape improvements.
